French Bulldog’s Life Saved on JetBlue Flight Thanks to Crew Members

Darcy, a 3-year-old French Bulldog, had to wear an oxygen mask on a recent JetBlue flight after showing signs of distress, according to ABC News.

She was having difficulty breathing, and the flight attendants came to the rescue after the French Bulldog’s tongue started to turn blue. The crew alerted the captain, who prompted the flight attendant to use an oxygen mask to save the canine.

Michele Burt, who was traveling with the dog named Darcy at the time, said on her Facebook page: “We all are affected by cabin pressure and oxygen fluctuations, human, canine and feline, etc., but the fact that the Attendants were responsive and attentive to the situation may have saved Darcy’s life.”

Photos of Darcy being treated on the flight from Florida to Massachusetts on Thursday, July 5th quickly went viral. The French Bulldog suffered from a lack of oxygen in the body, a deadly condition known as hypoxia. But thanks to the crew’s quick action, Darcy survived.

Crew member Renaud Fenster told Good Morning America Monday, The dog started panting very rapidly and uncontrollably, and so as a French bulldog owner myself, I knew the dog was overheating and needed some ice. I brought the dog some ice, and that didn't do anything.”

"I decided that we needed to consider using oxygen to support the animal," Renaud said.

JetBlue said in a statement to ABC News, “We all want to make sure everyone has a safe and comfortable fight, including those with four legs. We're thankful for our crew's quick thinking and glad everyone involved was breathing easier when the plane landed in Worcester."
